Veneers or orthodontics? The question is not which is better
One moves teeth and removes nothing. The other reshapes teeth and removes enamel. The right answer depends on what is actually wrong — and sometimes it is both, in a specific order.

What each one actually does
Orthodontics changes position. Veneers change shape, colour and surface. If your teeth are the right shape and colour but in the wrong place, veneers are solving the wrong problem — and to make them look straight, more enamel has to be removed on the prominent teeth.
When veneers are the honest answer
Teeth that are worn, discoloured beyond what whitening reaches, chipped, or genuinely misshapen. Also cases where a patient has already had orthodontics and the alignment is good but the enamel is not.
When orthodontics is the honest answer
Crowding, rotation, spacing, deep bites and crossbites. Anything where the teeth themselves are healthy and correctly formed. Straightening removes no tissue, which matters at thirty and matters more at sixty.
When it is both
Frequently. Six to nine months of aligners often reduces a veneer plan from ten units to four, because the prominent teeth no longer need to be reduced to make room. The sequence matters: align first, whiten second, restore last — so the ceramic is matched to the final shade and the final position.
The question to ask
"If I do the orthodontics first, how many veneers would I still need?" A clinician who has not calculated that has not planned your case; they have quoted a product.
